I don’t mean it in that way, but how are you really doing? To be productive and realise our full potential we must be well, not just physically but mentally and socially. The World Health Organisation defines wellness as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” The National Wellness Institute Defines it as “a conscious, self-directed and evolving process of achieving full potential.”
Wellness matters because our actions and our feelings relate to our wellbeing and really impacts our fulfilment and achievements as human beings.
There are 8 dimensions of wellness: occupational, emotional, spiritual, environmental, financial, physical, social, and intellectual. Each dimension of wellness is interrelated with another. Each dimension is crucial in the pursuit of our optimal wellbeing.
One thing I realise in Nigeria is that the average person is more comfortable just saying I have malaria than be honest about their mental and emotional state. Stay tuned as we examine all 8 dimensions tomorrow…
Which do you struggle with most? Mine is Occupational…
