Choose your hard…
I came across this quote and it struck deep. No path is really easy, it is simply a matter of choice, hard choices. The fact that decisions have consequences and we often need to choose between two hard choices.
What is considered the easy path right now is an inevitable hard path that lies ahead.
It reminded me of recent conversations where I dispelled the ‘soft life’ myth. It’s such a false narative. It may sound nice but there really is no such thing.
Life is not soft, It was not designed to be. There are principles that govern it. You sow which takes energy and effort, so that you can reap. You invest which involves sacrifice and delayed gratification so that you can spend or rest in future. You learn which can involve long days and sleepless nights so you can grow and make progress.
A young man in his 30s, seeking career clarity explained that he dropped out of professional accounting classes because his weekends were being taken up.
Developing yourself is hard, I can tell you that first hand from my most recent sojourn as a doctoral researcher. However, here this young man is 5 years later and the problem he expressed was not having clearly defined professional expertise after 5 years in his career. The alternative to not sacrificing weekends as a young person in your 20s is another type of hard as an older person.
It is hard to do many things, it is also hard to not do them.
Life is hard, and despite being worthy of love, we are wired for struggle (Brene Brown).
Whatever path you choose stick to it and focus. All paths are hard. Some forms of hard may be more aligned to your personality or spirit mind but it is hard all the same. Be wise nonethless, as you
Choose Your Hard.
