What If Terminator Was Really About Us?

What if Terminator the Movie was never really about machines taking over the world but about us?

I’ve always loved a good sci-fi movie.
And Terminator is one that stuck with me.

In the beginning, the machines were the villains, cold, calculating, emotionless.
But as the story evolved, so did they.

By the later sequels, the lines blurred.
Humans became cyber-enhanced.
And Arnold Schwarzenegger, the terrifying machine from the first movie evolved too.

He developed a conscience, joined human society, got married, and even had a child 😂

I still wonder… was that real emotion or just brilliant programming?

And then of course, there was his iconic line, “I’ll be back.”

Maybe he wasn’t just talking about revenge.
Maybe he was hinting at what we’re living through right now, that the machines would come back… just friendlier, more helpful, and a lot more polite.

Fast-forward to today, and our AI chatbots do something similar.
They apologise when corrected, sound empathetic, even use 🙏🏽 emojis.

It’s fascinating… and a little scary.
Because it makes you ask: what really makes us human?

That’s one of the reasons this year’s HR Bootcamp Conference 2025 is special to me.

With our CEO Panel, CHRO Panel, and the new Synergy Sparks, 2-minute TEDx style bursts of bold ideas, we’ll explore what happens when humans and AI work together, not against each other.

The real opportunity isn’t automation; it’s amplification.
Maybe AI won’t take our jobs after all, just the boring bits, so we can focus on what makes us brilliant.

Your thoughts?

ps: me at the radio studio yesterday. Speaking about? You guessed right!
