A Lesson in Action, Curiosity, and Opportunity

So, it was one of those days that I decided to take a walk in the mall and to my surprise I saw the Body Shop plastered on one of the shop spaces under renovation.

The store window glass had body shop posters from ceiling to floor indicating the store was not yet open, but the curious child in me still proceeded to open the door.

I am not sure what I was expecting but it clicked open to my surprise, and so I popped my head in and asked, ‘are you open?’

A lovely, big welcoming smile met my eyes saying ‘not yet, but come in, come in.’

And I did.

There were staff still stacking the shelves, being trained at the till, and scurrying to get the space ready.

I introduced myself to Jennifer with the big smile, as a fan and avid customer of Body Shop back in the days when I was in Uni.

It did not end there, we talked about the nostalgia of body shop.Their classic body butter was a favourite must have item for anyone with dry skin. I used it for years after a friend introduced me to it. I bought my first make up book from the Body Shop. We spoke about Body Shop founder Anne Roddick as though we knew her personally. We discussed their expansion plans to the rest of Nigeria.

After a great in store conversation, that was how I got invited to their launch event😁.I quickly connected them to my clients who own a mall in Kano and invited them to the launch as well.


So, last Saturday was the Body Shop Launch in Lagos, Nigeria. I got to meet the delectable Shalom, the founder of the Nigeria franchise. Found out we went to the same secondary school and had more than a bit in common. We shared our Body Shop experience…she reminded me, how as students it was our affordable luxury at £9.99, and then never missing the 2 for 1 deals to get best value for money.

And, be sure I have invited Jennifer to our HR Bootcamp Conference, happenng this December 3 -4.

Anyway, I can give plenty examples like this on why taking action beats thinking and planning.

How being curious beats waiting and hoping an opportunity will come to you.

Go to things.

Imagine if I did not open that closed door?

Many times in life, you are better off acting in error and apologising than asking for permission.

The world is constantly in motion, action and reaction equal and opposite.

Start a chain reaction in your life.

Take action, and be sure of an adventure at the very least.
