I worked from London this week and I didn’t plan to. A phonecall was all it took to change my week’s schedule. It was the same way I landed in the US and Kenya and Ghana and Denmark and Gambia and the list goes on to all the places my work has carried me to.
My work in unpredictable. It is what I signed up for. I never know for sure what I will be working on or doing the next week. I know some of it of course, like the routine planned projects but for the most part, I don’t.
When I first started working for myself, it was what I loved most. It felt like one big adventure…not knowing.
This schedule or lack of it could drive the next person crazy, but not me. I would literally smile to myself thinking what grand project adventure will the next phonecall bring.
You see, all work comes with stress, but not all types of work stresses you. I could spend days reviewing and writing a report and feel great when I finish the document, yet 5 minutes of micromanaging could literally feel like 10 hours pushing a rock uphill.
I will be the first to admit, I like work, but not all aspects of it.
Your preferences are important to know, so you choose work that leverages on your strengths as this increases your chances of success.
After 3 days of intensive work, the workshop was a success and I was glad to be part of it.
Life has many ‘hards’, we literally have to choose our hard.
