So, I put on a lot of weight this lock down period. How and Why? Story for another day.
I didn’t realise how much I had put on. When I finally got on the scale at the middle of July, I got the shock of my life.
As though things weren’t bad enough, I really didn’t need any extra weight (no pun intended) on my shoulders.
I had already been struggling to lose the 15kg which I put on when I had my son in 2018, and to add another 15kg to that was detrimental in every way.
So I tried to go back to the formula for my weight loss success in 2016 to 2017 and voila it was no longer as effective. In 6 weeks I lost 3kg. That may seem decent but it felt abysmal to someone who was really trying hard. It was particularly demoralising considering that I even tried a 5 day water only fast. It was then it dawned on me that fat is indeed regulated not just by food in-take but by hormones and yes my hormones had been wack for a while and further aggravated since April.
At a point, I started to feel there was no hope and it made me unhappy knowing that the extra weight would come with extra physical and mental health issues, which I really dreaded.
It was by pure chance and divine intervention that I saw a post in one of my old Ketogenic Diet Facebook groups, to join a weight loss bootcamp. I had never paid much attention to these weight loss bootcamps but I had always respected this particular coach as she pioneered the lifestyle in Nigeria and I must say, she knows her stuff…and so I joined.
It’s been about 16 days now and 5.7kg has left me. What I had been struggling for months to do on my own with little or no results, quickly happened in 2 weeks with the help of a coach.
This is how coaching works.
Coaching is the best intervention for improving performance and seeing tangible results.
Coaching is about helping someone get from where they are to where they want to go faster than if they were to do it themselves.
Coaching is about improving performance and removing barriers to success.
Many of us try to do things ourselves without success and even when we are progressing, we do it slowly losing so much time and momemtum.
With a coach, clarity is gained, goals are clarified, obstacles and barriers are removed, progress is checked, you are accountable and results are guaranteed.
All athletes use a coach.
Many successful executives use a coach.
In the workplace, one study concluded that Executive Coaching produced a 788% ROI. According to the International Coaching Federation (ICF), tangible benefits of coaching include increased productivity, higher levels of overall employee performance, reduced costs, growth in revenue and sales, higher employee retention, and higher engagement of employees. Intangible benefits include increased confidence in those being coached, improved communication, stronger relationships between employees both peer-to-peer and key stakeholder relationships.
If you really want to improve your work or personal performance, coaching is indeed the best option.
