Hiya, How are you doing? I hope well, most importantly, I pray you are alive? I have procrastinated writing this message because I couldn’t decide on the appropriate approach. A very eventful year 2020 has been. One I like to describe as three years in one. For the first time, many of us experienced the devastating impact of a pandemic; the loss of lives and livelihoods. The social isolation and uncertainty took a toll on our mental health, putting many of us in depressive states. Our country, Nigeria is currently facing what has been cited as its worst economic downtown with inflation and unemployment reaching record levels. The #Endsars protests and ongoing aftermath has left many of us feeling emotionally battered. Jack Ma has been quoted as saying that the goal for 2020 should be to stay alive. So anything extra is worthy of thanksgiving, I can relate. I wish I could say 2020 has been a great year, it hasn’t. In fact, it has been an anus horribillis, simply translated as a horrible year, not just for many, but for me personally. Many of you may remember last year fondly, I remember all the effort we all put in, the learning from great speakers, the support from sponsors and partners, the donations, the dancing, the fun, and how we celebrated our 10th-year anniversary dinner together. Well, sadly, at Easter, my dad transitioned to glory. Many of you who were present at the anniversary dinner would have met him. As a result, my 2020 has been consumed with grief. Which I must admit, has been a very difficult experience for me, one that has left me feeling defeated in many ways. Like most individuals and business, there have been an array of other challenges, however, this personal loss for me tops them all, because of the special relationship I shared with my dad. To know him is to love him and to be his daughter is indeed a great privilege and honour, one I shall forever hold dear. Lest I forget, there has been some good news. In April, we finally launched our e-learning portal and courses which we had been trying to deliver since 2016, yay! In the same month, we also launched the HR Bootcamp Entrepreneur Edition which has seen over 100 delegates trained to monetise HR Skills. The resulting success stories have been heartwarming. In September, we launched the HR Bootcamp Accelerator Programme, a 3-month coaching programme that develops HR professionals that standout and excel in their careers. We just concluded the first cohort of 12 delegates, the next one will begin in February. Lastly, we registered the name HRBootcamp as a trademark, so we are now officially own the rights to the name. Despite the lows and the small wins, it has been a challenging year for most. 2020 has been ‘too much’ and for that reason, it’s been decided to replace this year’s usual conference efforts with activities that are more meaningful and reflective of the needs of the HR community, organisations and employees in these trying times. There has been so much talk all year and if your year has been anything like mine, attending all the webinars and virtual classes, you have been zoomified! So, no more talk, let’s take action and provide help and solutions to those most in need. In the next few weeks, we will be communicating more specifically what these initiatives will cover. We can only succeed with your support, so, if you would like to make suggestions, volunteer your time or expertise, be a sponsor or donate cash and products to a good cause, please email us, we would be happy to hear from you. I still know, that where there’s life, there’s hope. So I am wishing you the best of what is left of the year and pray that whatever you may have lost will be restored. That your beautiful head will be anointed with oil and that your cup will overflow and runneth over. Here’s to you and yours, and surviving 2020. Once again, a big thank you to all who have supported our causes throughout the years. God bless you real good. My kindest regards, For: HR Bootcamp Conference Adora Ikwuemesi |
